Malay History Shows Good Leaders Not Stupid Don T Use Fear Amirudin
PKR CONGRESS | A good Malay leader should focus on the rakyat's well-being rather than playing up racial sentiments to stoke up fear, said PKR vice-president Amirudin Shari.
He pointed out that history has shown how Malacca's Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah handled the theft problem that was prevalent during his time by going down to the ground and battling the thieves himself.
"Malay history taught us that leaders should go to the ground to address problems faced by the rakyat.
"Being a prime minister is not only about going to official functions but also visits to schools and toilets (to see the people’s problems).
"This is the example of a good Malay leader as stated in our historical literature. Not just by simply chanting about 'Melayu' (the Malays) but is actually stupid and resorts to using intimidation to stoke up fear among the Malays," Amirudin (above) said in his winding-up speech at the PKR Congress today.
It is believed that the Selangor menteri besar was taking a swipe at opposition leaders, particularly Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin.
PN chairperson Muhyiddin YassinEarlier in his speech, Amirudin spoke about Muhyiddin having gone to town with claims that the Malays were losing their power under Pakatan Harapan leadership.
Amirudin told delegates that the opposition had used such a narrative to gain the support of the Malays, who make up the majority in the country.
"So, this is a challenge to us. We have to explain to the people that we (Harapan) want to elevate the Malays but not by using fear and intimidation.
"Instead we want to move forward together with every group in this country, the Malays, the Chinese, Indians, Sabahan and Sarawakians," he added. - Mkini
