Perak Umno chief Saarani Mohamad (left) appeared to take a swipe at former youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who launched a weekly podcast after being expelled.PETALING JAYA: Leave running Umno to the current leadership, Perak Umno chief Saarani Mohamad said today in a rebuke of criticisms from dismissed former members.
He said any decision on internal party matters should be decided solely by those who are still members without being influenced by those outside Umno.
“In my view, the party is now on the right track and all the things we should have left behind, we have. Even the ‘clean-out’ process has now been carried out,” Astro Awani quoted him as saying.
Ads by Kiosked“Let the new Umno leadership fix the damage that has been done, and let’s move forward,” he said when asked about the frequent criticisms lobbed at the party by former youth chief and federal minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who was expelled earlier this year.
-ADVERTISEMENT-Ads by During campaigning for the general election in November, Khairy had repeatedly expressed his desire to one day run for the Umno president’s post. He was expelled last month, with several others, on disciplinary grounds.
Last month, he launched a political podcast Keluar Sekejap with former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan, who was suspended for six years.
In a comment that appeared to be aimed at the pair, Saarani said: “To those who are outside Umno – former members or otherwise – thank you for still being concerned and having love for Umno. But let Umno make decisions about what it does.” - FMT
