King Urges New Gov T To Continue With Anti Corruption Plan
PARLIAMENT | Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah today urged the Perikatan Nasional government to continue with the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Plan
"I urge my government to remain committed to the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Plan. I urge everyone to champion the aspiration where the country's development won't be eroded by corruption, misappropriation and abuse of power
"Inculcate the idea that corruption is disgusting and must be combated at all cost in the minds of our people from when they are in school," he said in his royal address to Parliament
The opposition bench slammed their table in agreement at this
The National Anti-Corruption Plan is a five-year plan introduced under the previous Pakatan Harapan government in 2019
However, the Harapan government collapsed in late February after Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin pulled out his party from the coalition and was joined by PKR defectors
Together with BN, PAS, GPS, PBS and STAR, they formed the new PN government
The ruler, who had gone over several of the government's existing policies, said they cannot be properly implemented if plagued by corruption
"Therefore, the implementation of development programmes must be based on integrity and good governance to achieve sustainable economic growth for the country and people's welfare," he said
The ruler, who came to Parliament in a face mask, also recognised the contributions of healthcare workers during the Covid-19 pandemic
He had asked MPs to pay tribute to them and the elected representatives, who were also in face masks, stood up and applauded healthcare workers
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong also made special mention to the civil service, armed forces and police for their contributions
The Dewan Rakyat today only sat for less than two hours. The sitting was only to hear the royal address with no debates allowed
The government had attributed the restrictions to precautions against the Covid-19 pandemic but the opposition had accused PN or blocking attempts to test its majority in the House. - Mkini
