John Sikie Tayai Gets The Vote To Be New Prs President
The party veteran, an assemblyman and state minister, fended off a strong challenge from Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang at the party elections today.

(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Kakus assemblyman John Sikie Tayai is expected to be declared the new president of Parti Rakyat Sarawak, following the party election at its delegates conference in Kuching today
Local media reports said Sikie, a veteran PRS leader, had fended off a strong challenge from Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang, obtaining 184 votes to 159 with 343 ballots cast, Dayak Daily reported.
Sikie, a state minister in the premier’s department, is the first PRS leader to become president in a contested election. He succeeds Joseph Salang Gandum, who declared in August that he would not seek re-election.
Salang took over the presidency in 2021 after the death of PRS founder James Masing.
Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi is expected to become deputy president following the withdrawal of Balai Ringin assemblyman Snowdan Lawan from the contest.
Sri Aman MP Doris Sophia Brodie was re-elected women’s wing leader, and Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang as the new PRS Youth chief.
Four candidates are seeking re-election as vice-president: Kanowit MP Aaron Ago Dagang, Hulu Rajang MP Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Belaga assemblyman Liwan Lagang, and Bukit Begunan assemblyman Mong Dagang. They are challenged by Lubok Antu MP Roy Angau Gingkoi, Senator Rita Sarimah Patrick Insol, and Baleh assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai.
