Jakim Should Have More Clout In Foreign Artist Regulator Pas
PAS’ ulama wing has urged the government to give the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) a stronger say in the regulatory body that decides whether foreign artists are allowed to perform in Malaysia.
The wing’s chief Ahmad Yahya said the current situation is unfortunate because Jakim only plays a minimal role in the Central Agencies Committee for Applications for Filming and Performances by Foreign Artistes (Puspal).
He said this is especially in an effort to stop lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transexual (LGBT) movements.
“We should be concerned about the threat of LGBT ideologues who are infiltrating this region.
“The hosting of concerts featuring Western artists is in opposition to the country’s oriental religion and culture.
“Moreover, we should be repentant as our country has just started its post-pandemic recovery,” he said.
According to Ahmad (above), the country is also facing a difficult time fending off efforts to legitimise LGBT movements, as other countries in the region begin to accept LGBT people.
“Our laws currently criminalises LGBT practices under Section 377A of the Penal Code. Likewise, various state laws need to be enhanced,” he said at the ulama wing’s muktamar in Guar Chempedak, Kedah, today.
Section 377 criminalises oral and anal intercourse with a penalty of up to 20 years imprisonment and whipping.
Ahmad also said the wing is urging authorities to enforce the law seriously, especially on the matter of sexual grooming through social media.
‘Plug every crack’
The senator said the government needs to improve the Islamic Social Action Plan 2019-2025 to curtail the spread of perversion in the country.
“This action plan needs to be improved in line with current developments to ensure every crack that could allow the LGBT agenda to infiltrate is plugged immediately.
“This needs to be done through children’s cartoon programmes as well as streaming services like Netflix.
“The Film Censorship Board must be stern in stymieing the normalisation of LGBT elements through films entering the country,” said Ahmad, who is also the Kedah PAS commissioner. - Mkini
