Ironic That Home Minister Saifuddin Is Unable To Protect His Own Phone From Hackers

SUCH seems to be the instantaneous yet blunt reaction from detractors upon being informed that Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s WhatsApp account has been hacked by irresponsible parties via a Home Ministry’s statement.
Stating that the matter has been reported to the authorities for further action, the Home Ministry further reminded the public not to be deceived by calls or messages claiming to be or impersonating the former PKR secretary-general, especially if they involve financial matters or appointments for a meet-up.
“We deeply regret the actions of these irresponsible hackers and hope that the public will not easily fall for such scams,” the Home Ministry pointed out in a statement posted on X.

“We also advise the public to be more vigilant about scam syndicates operating through various social media applications and to report such hacking activities to the relevant authorities.”
However, Malaysians do not seem to be sympathetic towards Saifuddin with a few wondering if he can be expected to be the last bastion of defence for the country if he is unable to protect his own phone from hackers.
Some even regarded the entire episode as a joke.

One commenter cheekily requested for his WhatsApp number so that he “can block the number” to prevent the dissemination of fake messages.
Another insinuated that he might be surfing some undesirable sites during which he could have accidently installed certain apps that are vulnerable to hacking.

Delving deeper, some commenters posited that this could be a “cover-up” following his fiery speech at the recent PKR national congress that he was willing to be the first individual to challenge party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim if promises made by PMX are not translated into actual action.

This is where a good governance advocate stepped in to wonder if the WhatsApp hacking incident bears any relation to the recent arrest of two Home Ministry officials by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection to an investigation on alleged corruption to expedite citizenship-related processes.
“Try to be a little bit more detailed so people can believe how your WhatsApp got hacked,” he suggested.
“The other day, two senior officers were questioned by the MACC. Is there any connection here (with Saifuddin’s WhatsApp account getting hacked)?” – May 28, 2025
