Hamid was asked to comment on Ayob's (photo) transfer from his position as the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter-Terrorism Division (E8) head to become Johor police chief, effective March 6
A media release on the transfer was issued yesterday
"He has been (in his position) for too long. If I let him there for the next one or two months, people will call him 'Ayob Terrorist' because that's what he's been doing (catching terrorists)," the IGP said in a media conference at Bukit Aman today

"He (Ayob) needs to be exposed. He has done a lot of work, (now) we give him the chance to lead and gain experience. He's still young." Earlier, Hamid witnessed the duty handover ceremony from the outgoing Federal Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd to his successor, Ramli Din
Last year, Ayob was in the spotlight after his department nabbed 12 people,  including two assemblypersons, in a counter-terrorism dragnet. The suspects were picked up over purported links to defunct terrorist group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam
Meanwhile, asked if the transfer of the current Johor police chief Kamarudin Md Din was linked to the recent ruckus at Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq's event, Hamid said the incident coincidentally happened at a time of a major reshuffling exercise
"It's hard for me to say but if we look at Kamarudin's background, he's an expert in handling cybercrime cases, so (his return) is timely," said the IGP
"If you want to link (the transfer) to the incident, it's up to you." Kamarudin will be joining the Federal Police Management Department. - Mkini
