How To Pick The Comfiest Mattress For Your Home
Hello guys. Thank you so much for spend your time to read my entry. Today I would like to share with all of you about How to Pick the Comfiest Mattress for Your Home.
Important Mattress Questions
When deciding how to structure this resource, I chose to divide it into the six most critical questions to ask when purchasing a new mattress for your ultimate comfort. Then, in each segment, you’ll learn how to respond to these questions in the best way for you. To whet your appetite, here are the questions we’ll be delving into, along with links to their respective sections (so you may jump about as you please):
What is the age of your mattress? What sleeping posture do you prefer? What level of firmness do you require? How much weight do you have? What kind of mattress do you require? What is your financial situation?
Though each person’s search will be unique, solving these puzzles will put you up for significant shopping success. So, let us begin by discussing mattress age!
How Old Is Your Mattress?
This is the first question you must answer. Why? The age of your mattress, on the other hand, can play a significant influence in determining whether or not you need to replace it. As a general guideline, if you’ve owned your old bed for more than 8 years, you should start thinking about purchasing a new one. This isn’t a hard and fast rule, but it’s a good starting point for checking in with your mattress and determining whether it’s still performing its job of lulling you to sleep!
Check out the image below for a quick introduction on the average expiration dates for various mattress materials:
While these figures might help you understand how long your mattress will last, the best way to know if it’s time to replace it is to listen to your body. Are you experiencing new pains when you get up in the morning? Do you struggle to find a comfortable sleeping posture at night? Have you discovered any new dips in your mattress that you can’t remedy simply rotating it on a regular basis? If you answered yes to any of these questions, it’s time to say goodbye to your bed.
What Is Your Sleeping Position?
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers are the type of sleeper most in need of a Goldilocks mattress solution. If they are too firm, these people may endure excessive tension in their shoulders and lower back. If their hips are too soft, they may sink out of alignment with their shoulders, resulting in a bent back and shooting pains up their spine. As a result, these aspirants want a medium firm feel that sits squarely in the middle of these two extremes.
Back sleepers, in my opinion, should choose a mattress that falls somewhere between 5.5-7/10 on the firmness scale, with 1 being the softest mattress in the world and 10 being the firmest mattress in the world. For reference, 6.5 is commonly regarded as the industry standard for medium firmness.
Why is this a good vibe for back sleepers? It helps to elevate and adjust the spine in a neutral position. When I talk about neutral spine alignment, I’m referring to the idea of creating an even line from the shoulders to the hips. This helps to relieve back strain and avoid aches and pains associated with fibromyalgia and arthritis.
Though back sleepers are fortunate in that they can usually find comfort on a wide range of mattresses and materials, I urge that they look into hybrid mattresses, which blend foam and coil layers (more on that later!) Check out my Best Mattress for Back Sleepers page for more specific mattress recommendations.
Side Sleepers
Side sleepers require deep pressure relief at the shoulders and hips, whereas back sleepers require balance. This means they’ll want to go with a softer mattress that molds to their body’s curves to help prevent uncomfortable jams in the night.
While softness is a highly subjective term, I describe it as anything in the 4-6/10 range on the firmness scale. Again, we’re comparing these measurements to the industry standard for medium firmness, which is 6.5.
Because side sleepers exert so much strain on their joints during the night, it is critical that they sleep on a comfortable bed created expressly for pressure reduction. Many mattresses claim to cure shoulder and hip pain, but it’s crucial to read the design details to see how well a bed will relieve pressure in these areas. Side sleepers should choose for memory foam mattresses, which are recognized for their deep body contouring, sinkage, and pressure reduction. Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers prefer an ultra-firm mattress that lifts the hips in line with the shoulders, which is the polar opposite of side sleepers. The most significant issue these people will experience is a soft mattress that causes the hips to sag out of alignment with the rest of the spine, so they should look for models that are highly supportive.
When it comes to stomach sleepers, I prefer to keep things between 7-9/10 on the hardness scale. When these statistics are compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it is clear that stomach sleepers will prefer to stay on the upper end of this range.
But it doesn’t imply you want a mattress that’s as hard as a rock. The goal here is to choose a bed that combines extremely strong foundations with thin comfort layers that add just a touch of cushion to the overall rigidity. As a result, stomach sleepers will most likely benefit from an innerspring or hybrid mattress that combines tall coil portions with either pillow tops or a quilted cover layer.
