Hamzah Court Decision Disappointing But We Won T Bow To Tyranny
Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin expressed his disappointment with the Court of Appeal’s decision to retain four abuse of power charges against former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Calling it a case of political prosecution, Hamzah (above) said in a brief statement that the party will not be cowed due to the decision on the charges, which are linked to the Jana Wibawa programme.
“This is disappointing but we will discuss the matter and leave it to the wisdom of our lawyers to decide the next step.
“Our struggle will never stop with this political prosecution.
On the contrary, it strengthens our solidarity and determination to oppose all of this tyranny,” said Hamzah this afternoon.
The appellate court this morning dismissed the Pagoh MP’s application for a review of its earlier decision to reinstate the criminal charges.
The Perikatan Nasional chairperson’s abuse of power case involving RM232.5 million is linked to the programme for the empowerment of competent bumiputera contractors.
Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin YassinOn Aug 15 last year, the Kuala Lumpur High Court quashed the four charges for being allegedly defective and not disclosing particulars for Muhyiddin to mount a proper defence.
However, the appellate court reversed this ruling in February this year. Muhyiddin then sought a review of this verdict.
Today, the five-person appellate bench chaired by judge Azizah Nawawi ruled that its earlier decision was valid.
Hamzah said that his party is solidly behind the former premier.
“Bersatu stands firm with Muhyiddin and truly believes that Allah SWT will help those who are oppressed,” he said. - Mkini
