Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil quoted the famous pro-Palestine phrase “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” earlier today.
He was being prodded by the media about Nick Adams - a pro-Israel Australian-American influencer - being nominated by US President Donald Trump as the country’s next ambassador to Malaysia.
Fahmi, who is the communications minister, initially played coy on whether the government has decided on its response to Adams’ nomination, saying the matter is yet to be discussed in the cabinet.
He said the cabinet would usually discuss foreign envoy nominations when it receives a memorandum from the Foreign Ministry.
ADS“We have to wait,” he said before being bombarded with further queries on whether Malaysia would object if Adams’ nomination is formally sent and if the country has an avenue to do so.
The minister then explained that in diplomacy, any foreign envoy proposed has to be accepted by the host country and cited the pro-Palestine phrase.

“From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” Fahmi said.
On July 11, Trump nominated Adams, an influencer, author, and self-described “alpha male”, as the next US ambassador to Malaysia.
The 40-year-old would be replacing Edgard Kagan, a career diplomat who was nominated by former president Joe Biden in May 2023.
Adams is infamous for his posts promoting a personal image based on “stereotypical symbols of masculinity”, as well as making Islamophobic remarks.
He once boasted on social media that he had a waitress fired from her job because she was wearing a “Free Palestine” pin. - Mkini
