Fahmi, in his reply, also called on media practitioners to adhere to journalistic ethics by reporting only authentic news and run the necessary correction should there be an error in the reporting. - BERNAMA picKUALA LUMPUR: The Communications and Digital Ministry is planning to amend the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
"The amendment, however, is not meant to restrict freedom of expression and the media, (but) to strengthen the regulatory framework related to network security and reliability," Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Fahmi was responding to a question from Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) on the Sedition Act 1948, the Official Secrets Act 1972 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and the extent to which they can control the freedom of the media, which has no limits in disseminating information, especially electronic media.
He also asked if the ministry planned to review acts related to the freedom of the media to deal with issues of unethical journalists.

On another issue, Fahmi said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will meet Awesome TV today following its recent news report quoting sources that the government was planning to reduce the number of civil servants.
He said the station was found to have published news content that violated the rules six times, including one involving the current government.
