Syed Saddiq wants Kajang voters to give PSM a chance
9.30pm: Kajang, Selangor - Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman calls on Kajang voters to give PSM candidate S Arutchelvan a chance to represent them.
Speaking from the back of a pickup truck, the Muar MP tells a crowd at an eatery in Bandar Mahkota Cheras that they can have “the best of both worlds” - where the federal and Selangor state governments are led by Pakatan Harapan while at the same time have a representative that will really fight for them.
“This state election will not change the federal government, it will still be there.
“And like what the (caretaker) Selangor menteri besar said, the (Harapan-led) state government will also remain unchanged.
“So, you as voters can have the best of both worlds here (by voting Arutchelvan), to be the check and balance and your voice of conscience (in the Selangor state legislative assembly),” he says.
Muda candidate apologises following fat-shaming accusations
5.18pm: Petaling Jaya, Selangor - Muda’s Bukit Gasing candidate VKK Raja Teagaran, 44, says sorry over a tweet urging voters to opt for a “fitter candidate”.
He says he was merely advocating for healthy living and is sorry for the offence caused by his earlier post, which he deleted.
VKK Raja TeagaranIn a tweet earlier, he said: “Always remember being fit and healthy is a must, no point in being young when you’re leading an unhealthy life.
“A slightly older and fitter candidate from @partimuda,” he said.
This was after backlash from social media users who accused him of “fat-shaming” incumbent Bukit Gasing assemblyperson and Pakatan Harapan candidate, Rajiv Rishyakaran, 42.
Ampangan incumbent upset over PM’s ‘traitor’ label
4.35pm: Ampangan, Negeri Sembilan - Ampangan incumbent assemblyperson Mohamad Rafie Ab Malek is upset over being labelled “traitor” by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for defending the state seat as an independent.
Rafie, who claims to be one of the founders of PKR, says he helped Anwar a lot during times of hardship and laments being treated as such now.
“When he (Anwar) faced problems, I gave my energy and money to help out. I’m one of the last-standing founders (of PKR), all the others have left.
“I don’t want to shame anyone or fight; I just want the elections to be over in a peaceful manner,” Astro Awani quoted Rafie telling a press conference in Seremban today.

Hadi: Sabah, S’wak MPs willing to back PN to seize Putrajaya
1.40pm: Petaling Jaya, Selangor - PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang continues to create the impression that the outcome of the six state elections will alter the political equation at the federal level.
Berita Harian quotes him in Terengganu last night as saying that there are MPs from Sabah and Sarawak who are willing to back Perikatan Nasional if it emerges victorious on Aug 12.
According to him, these lawmakers as well as others from parties within the Pakatan Harapan-BN coalition are just waiting for the right moment.
“Originally, there were 10 Umno MPs who supported us, perhaps 15. But because of compulsion and threats to take them to court, those in Umno are scared. So, the coalition government was formed in a chaotic manner.”
Stressing the importance of the task ahead, Hadi says the formation of a new federal government is crucial to safeguard race, religion, and the nation.
‘Felda issues can be resolved if state, federal govts are aligned’
1pm: Gua Musang, Kelantan - The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) is confident that some of the issues affecting settlers in Kelantan will be resolved if the state government is aligned with the federal government.
Its chairperson Ahmad Shabery Cheek says the situation in Pahang is clear proof of that.
Felda chairperson Ahmad Shabery CheekHe says there had been some confusion among Felda settlers to issues facing them, which he attributed to the change in the country’s leadership over the past five years.
"But, for the future of Felda, we need a state government that is aligned with the federal government," Bernama quotes him as saying after a ceramah in Felda Chiku 3 last night.
He also expresses confidence that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will continue to work on resolving issues facing Felda and its settlers.
Kelantan PAS’ pledge to upgrade airport ‘half-baked’ - Rafizi
10.45am: Klang, Selangor - Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli says PAS Kelantan’s offer to upgrade the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Pengkalan Chepa to an international airport if Perikatan Nasional remains in charge of the state after the election this Saturday is half-baked.
Bernama reports Rafizi as saying at a Madani ceramah in Sementa last night that the matter of upgrading an airport to an international airport is under the jurisdiction of the federal government, not something that can be promised by a party or state government.
Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli“We have to understand that the matter of opening (the airport), of granting landing rights, of upgrading it to become an international or regional airport, all of that is under the jurisdiction of the federal government.”
Sultan Ismail Petra AirportRafizi believes the promise was made to attract support in conjunction with the state election and in the end, would be used as an excuse to blame the federal government if the matter could not be implemented by the PAS government if they continued to govern Kelantan in the future.

PN spotlights Sekinchan Umno leader’s past controversies
8am: Sekinchan, Selangor - In an apparent bid to instigate protest votes against the Pakatan Harapan-BN coalition, a Perikatan Nasional poster in Sekinchan puts a spotlight on the controversial local Umno division chief Jamal Yunos.
Through wordplay, the poster carries a Chinese text that reads, “A vote for PN is a vote against Jamal; a vote for Harapan is a gift to Jamal.”
The transliterated text meant to represent the syllable “mal” in Jamal’s name is substituted with a picture of an effigy of a horse’s head, in place of the Chinese word for horse (马 má).
The text is also placed over a picture of protestors in red shirts standing outside the iconic gateway to Petaling Street.
On Sept 16, 2015, Jamal led a group of 45,000 protestors in Kuala Lumpur to “defend Malay dignity”. Some 800 of them attempted to barge through Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur but were stopped by police. - Mkini
