Dap Condemns Violence By Israeli Regime After Clashes At Mosque
DAP's foreign affairs spokesperson Kasthuri Patto said her party condemns the ongoing violence by the Israeli regime, following several violent incidents in and around Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque compound that have left more than 170 wounded.
"The DAP condemns all forms of aggression and violence by the Israeli regime inflicted on Al-Aqsa mosque and the Palestinian people.
“We call for peace, diplomacy and reconciliation between people and nations gridlocked in decades of unrest, duress and turbulence,” she said in a statement today.
The clashes on Sunday took the number of wounded since Friday to more than 170, at a tense time when the Jewish Passover festival coincides with the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
They also follow deadly violence in Israel and the occupied West Bank starting in late March in which 36 people have been killed.
"After 30 years, this year saw all three Abrahamic faiths celebrating their most prominent, solemn observances over the mid-April weekend – Good Friday by Christians, Passover by the Jews and the holy month of Ramadan by Muslims.
"Amidst these holy services, clashes between the Israeli police and Palestinians at the Al-Aqsa mosque have left more than 150 wounded and many killed.
"This should not and cannot happen in modern history where there is room for diplomacy, peace and reconciliation," said Kasthuri, who is also Batu Kawan MP.
DAP's foreign affairs spokesperson Kasthuri PattoCrime against humanity
Kasthuri said the war between Israelis and Palestinians can never be justified with “an eye for an eye”, whether it is during Ramadan, the Lenten season or Jewish observances.
"A crime against humanity is a crime against humanity and must be condemned by all.
"Institutionalised aggression by the police or by individuals must be condemned and must end immediately.
"Anyone and everyone deserve to live in a safe environment and to be able to profess and practise their faiths without harm or danger and this must be accorded to the people of Palestine and everywhere else in the world facing raging geopolitical conflict," she added.
Kasthuri suggested that as a member of the UN Human Rights Council, Malaysia must do more to be a go-between and peacemaker in this time-worn conflict and war. - Mkini
