Covid 19 2 593 New Cases Multiple New Records Set
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 2,593 new Covid-19 cases today - the highest on record.
Other records set are for the highest number of active Covid-19 cases, the highest number of intubated patients, the highest number of patients requiring intensive care and highest number of clusters classified in a day.
Selangor logged the largest number of new cases followed by Johor and Sabah. These three states, along with Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kelantan and Kedah all logged more than 40 new cases.
In Selangor, more than half the cases appear to be from the existing Seri Lanang cluster which had 509 cases alone but is limited to the Kapar district. Another 85 cases were from the Teratai cluster. Both originated from workplaces.
The Bukit Pasir cluster, which originated in the Muar district of Johor, had 283 new cases.

Patients in ICU: 141 ↑ (16 more than the previous day, new record)
Intubated patients: 67 ↑ (16 more than the previous day, new record)
Deaths: 4 Of the 2,593 new cases, four cases were imported while the rest involved local transmission. A breakdown of the new cases are as follows:

Deaths
Of the four deaths reported, two were in Sabah. The cumulative Covid-19 death toll for Sabah has reached 277 or 54 percent of the national total (513).
Details of the four victims - all Malaysians with comorbidity - are as follows:
'Patient 43,178' - male, 65, passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Sabah.
'Patient 106,140' - female, 60, passed away at the Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor.
'Patient 111,987' - male, 73, remains brought to the Selayang Hospital, Selangor.
'Patient 113,249' - female, 50, remains brought to the Kudat Hospital, Sabah.
Clusters
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry today classified 13 new clusters - the highest ever.
The Dataran Utas cluster involved targeted screening of a company in the Petaling district in Selangor where 66 cases have been detected.
The Casa Permai cluster involved targeted screening of a supermarket in the Petaling district in Selangor where 109 cases have been detected.
The Meda Jasa cluster involved the Petaling district (Selangor), the Kuala Kangsar district (Perak) and the Lembah Pantai district (Kuala Lumpur). The index case suffered from severe acute respiratory infection (Sari). There are 64 cases in this cluster.
The Firma cluster involved targeted screening of a factory in the Johor Bahru district in Johor. There are 45 cases in this cluster.
The Persiaran Teknology cluster involved targeted screening at a factory in the Kulai district of Johor. There are 25 cases in this cluster.
The Bersepadu cluster involved the targeted screening of an unspecified workplace at the Kota Tinggi district, Johor where 21 cases have been detected.
The Jalan Padu cluster involved the Johor Bahru district in Johor where the index case was diagnosed on Jan 3 after reporting symptoms. As of today, 17 cases have been detected.
The Kampung Pitas cluster involved the Kalabakan and Tawau districts in Sabah. The index case was diagnosed on Jan 2 after reporting symptoms. As of today, there are 72 cases in this cluster.
The Ikan Emas cluster involved targeted screening of a company in the Cheras district, Kuala Lumpur. There are 35 cases in this cluster.
The Kayuh cluster involved the Titiwangsa, Kepong and Lembah Pantai districts in Kuala Lumpur. The index case is a close contact of a Covid-19 positive patient. There are 11 cases in this cluster.
The Jalan Seputeh cluster involved the targeted screening of a restaurant in the Lembah Pantai district of Kuala Lumpur. There are 18 cases in this cluster.
The Anak Air cluster involved the Melaka Tengah and Jasin districts in Malacca. The index case was diagnosed on Jan 1 after reporting symptoms. There are 14 cases in this cluster.
