Covid 19 1 262 New Daily Cases Recorded For Six Days


 


This is Bernama’s weekly roundup on Covid-19 and related matters in Malaysia and globally from March 4 to noon today. In Malaysia, case numbers surpassed 5.04 million and globally, the virus has infected more than 681 million people and caused over 6.8 million deaths. Some 654 million patients have so far recovered from the virus. The Covid-19 pandemic, which is now in its fourth year, has affected 229 countries and territories.
New daily cases for six days (March 4 to 9) increased marginally to 1,262 compared with 1,237 during the previous corresponding period.
Yesterday, a total of 279 new daily cases were reported (the highest to date for March), including six imported cases. No deaths were reported yesterday.
During the week compiled by Bernama from March 4 to 9, zero death cases were reported consecutively on March 4, 6 and 7. For the record, during this week, only two death cases were reported.
Of 279 cases, seven states/regions recorded two-digit figures, led by Selangor (97), Kuala Lumpur (64), Malacca (17), Johor (17), Perak (14), Putrajaya (11) and Terengganu (11).
One-digit cases were reported in Sarawak (nine), Penang (nine), Negeri Sembilan (nine), Kedah (seven), Pahang (six), Kelantan (three), Labuan (three) and Sabah (two).
Perlis reported zero case yesterday and for four consecutive days on March 5, 6, 7 and 8.
Active Coid-19 cases in Malaysia as of 11.59pm yesterday stood at 9,296 and of the total, 96.4 percent (8,964) were quarantined at home.
Overall, as of yesterday, Malaysia recorded 5,044,718 Covid-19 cases with 4,998,455 recoveries and 36,967 deaths. The pandemic hit the nation on Jan 25, 2020. Malaysia is now in transition to endemic phase from April 1, 2022.
With a cumulative figure of 5,044,718, Malaysia now ranked 28th out of 229 nations/territories struck by the pandemic. Ahead of Malaysia are Chile (5,192,286) and Ukraine (5,399,231).
According to Worldometer, of the list of 229 countries, Russia reported the highest number of new daily cases (12,496) followed by South Korea (10,890) and Japan (9,834).
On Covid-19 fatalities, the United States reported the highest figure with 1,148,391 cases.

Covid-19 scenario in Malaysia
Health Ministry’s MOHNow data as of 11.59pm yesterday:
New active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia as of 11.59pm yesterday stood at 9,296 and of the total, 96.4 percent (8,964) were home quarantined.
Zero case was reported at the Covid-19 Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC); 327 cases (3.5 percent) at hospitals; four cases (0 percent) at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) without respiratory assistance (ABP) and one case (0 percent) at the ICU with ABP.
For the record, there are five categories of Covid-19 infections:
According to the Health Ministry, Category one is for patients with no symptoms; Category two is for patients with mild symptoms; Category three is for patients with pneumonia; Category four is for patients who require supplemental oxygen; and Category five is for the critically ill and need to be on ventilator support at the ICU.
Recovered cases:
March 4 (178), March 5 (198), March 6 (181), March 7 (202), March 8 (216) and March 9 (236).

Recoveries stood at 654,132,455 from 653,360,031 during the previous week.
Some 229 countries are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and those in the top 10 of the list are the US, India, France, Germany, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, Italy, the United Kingdom (UK) and Russia.
