The criticism came following a statement issued by Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar yesterday which outlined that movement within Kuala Lumpur is allowed as the federal territory is considered to be under a single district.
The statement, which was posted on the 'Polis KL' Facebook page, riled netizens over what appeared to be a practice of double standards despite a previous announcement by the government which prohibited house visits during Hari Raya.
Some of the netizens said they had refrained themselves from visiting parents and families, despite living in the same district.
"What nonsense is this. We didn't even visit our neighbours, yet Neelofa can do so."
As of 10pm, the post received over 1,200 comments and shares.
In the same statement, Anuar said the case was being investigated for violation of MCO SOP.
He also advised the public to refrain from making any speculations over the viral video and urged them to comply with all regulations set by the government.
The government had prohibited house visits during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, which was celebrated on May 13, to stem the rise in Covid-19 cases in the country.
Later, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim clarified that house visits during Hari Raya in the city or anywhere else was indeed not allowed.
He also reiterated that inter-district and interstate travel were barred especially during Hari Raya. - NST
