Cops Summon Bersatu Youth Chief Over Speech Outside Dang Wangi Ipd
Police have called up Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham purportedly over his speech outside the Dang Wangi district police headquarters during a “Tolak Akta Hasutan” solidarity night on July 29.
The wing’s information chief, Harris Idaham Rashid, said they were informed that an investigation has been opened against the Gombak Setia state assemblyperson under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Harris said, in a statement today, that Hilman (above) was summoned by the police’s Classified Crime Investigations Unit.
“Hilman has been requested to attend the investigation on Monday, Aug 11, 2025, at 11am, at the Bukit Aman police headquarters.
“Bersatu Youth condemns this investigation, which can be characterised as political pressure and intimidation following the ‘Turun Anwar Rally’.
“Bersatu and the entire Youth wing leadership will continue to stand firmly with Hilman, and we hope that the investigation process will proceed smoothly in accordance with the rule of law,” Harris added.
On July 29, police arrested two Bersatu members: Perak Bersatu Youth organising secretary Furqan Hakimi and Bersatu member Syafiq Aziz, allegedly due to their involvement in the July 26 Turun Anwar rally in Kuala Lumpur.
A day prior, police arrested Bersatu division chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, after a police report was lodged against him in relation to the gathering.
Badrul’s lawyer, Rafique Rashid Ali, said an investigation paper was opened over alleged offences under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for insulting behaviour and Section 504 of the Penal Code on intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace.
The probe was also said to involve Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act covering the misuse of communication networks and Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, which punishes the utterance of seditious words.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail later said the police were investigating an incident during the rally, where several individuals were seen caning an effigy resembling Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
While Khalid did not mention the identity of the persons, Rafique confirmed that Badrul was arrested in connection with the incident. - Mkini
