Cops Question Ronnie Liu For Visiting Families Of Alleged Ltte Supporters
Police have recorded a statement from Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu (pic) after he visited families of DAP members caught for alleged involvement with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) last year.
Speaking to reporters after giving a short statement at Dang Wangi police headquarters on Monday (March 9), Liu said police did not ask him many questions.
“They asked why I was outside Bukit Aman last year and I told them I went to hand over a memorandum over the arrest of DAP members.
“They asked why I did that, and I told them I did so as I sympathised with the family members,” he said.
Liu said they also asked if he made any speech and he said he had.
“I told them that I said believed those arrested were not involved, there was no evidence, and I also asked police to release them quickly as Deepavali was just around the corner then,” he said.
On Oct 23, Liu together with Melaka DAP held a peaceful vigil and urged the government to release two Melaka exco members before Deepavali.
Melaka DAP deputy chairman Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee and the family of those arrested were also present at the time.
On Feb 21, then Attorney General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas dropped all charges against the 12 individuals accused of supporting LTTE.
