Cheap Political Stunt Pn Slams Irb Raid On Hamzah S House
Bersatu supreme council member Saifuddin Abdullah has dubbed the Inland Revenue Board's (IRB) recent raid on opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin’s house a "cheap political stunt" ahead of the upcoming six state elections.
"At a time when they (government leaders) are not performing, they have resorted to the desperate move of slandering senior Bersatu and PN leaders.
"I see it as a 'cheap' political trick by the desperate Harapan-BN combo as the elections approach," the Indera Mahkota MP told a press conference in Kuantan today.
Saifuddin (above) was commenting on IRB's raid at Hamzah's house in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, which The Star reported was over “alleged unreported income taxes”.
According to the report, Hamzah was at home during the raid, and files, as well as documents pertaining to accounts and asset ownership, were seized.
Opposition leader Hamzah ZainudinSaifuddin said that he personally contacted Hamzah over the matter and was told that the raid was in regard to a case in which he has been named before.
This is in reference to the RM15 million corruption case against businessman Sim Choo Thiam, who, in May, claimed trial to four counts of bribery linked to projects under the Home Ministry when the portfolio was helmed by Hamzah.
Hamzah, who is Larut MP, also described the implication of his name in the case as a political ploy to tarnish his reputation.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has denied knowledge about the IRB raid on Hamzah's house.
"That is the job of the IRB as an investigative body, and I was not informed," Berita Harian quoted Anwar telling reporters briefly after performing his Friday prayers at the Raja Haji Fisabilillah mosque in Cyberjaya, today. - Mkini
