Career Fair

A Career fair will be on in my hometown. I am not sure about the usefulness of attending the fair . So , I ask my school counselor and the dialogue begin .



Haslinda : Good morning , Cik Mariam . The career fair will be on in the town stadium this weekend. A group of us are wondering whether we should pay the fair a visit.


Cik Mariam : Of course, you should go. This is the best and most comprehensive place to check out types of career and job market. Most of the booths will be set up by companies looking for potential employees.


Haslinda : But, we are not looking for jobs. We don't even know what career to go into.


Cik Mariam : All the more reason why you should go. Many of those who visit career fairs are students and fresh school leavers. At the career fair, you'll have the opportunity to check out the types of career opportunities that are offered by employers. This will help you to pick careers that are not overcrowded yet. You might even pick up information about new trends in the job market.


Haslinda : I Understand what you mean. The job market for accountants and lawyers might be flooded and so we should go for an alternative career. Some companies might have created new positions that require new skills. So , we need to be well-informed. A career fair is definitely the place to collect such information.


Cik Mariam : Besides, you might be able to know the types of scholarships and loans that some companies are offering. You'll be surprised at what certain companies are willing to offer. They might even sponsor students who are willing to study and work on a part-time basis. Of course , one will have to be bonded with the company.


Haslinda : Is there anything else we should take note of?


Cik Mariam : Yes , do dress appropriately . You never know, you might be talking to your future employer . You want to create a good impression.
