Bung Mocks Critics Over Turtle Eggs Claims
Sabah deputy chief minister Bung Moktar Radin has responded to allegations of dining at a table where banned turtle eggs were served by mocking his critics who took to Facebook with their claims earlier today.
In his own Facebook post, the Kinabatangan MP posted three photographs of himself holding up three eggs.
"(Here) there are still uneaten eggs, I upload (the photos) myself, don't need to wait for people to edit and try to play dumb politics," said Bung Moktar, who warned against such attempts to attack him.
The Sabah government had initially said it would probe the claim highlighted by Warisan vice-president Junz Wong who earlier shared a photograph of Bung dining at a table where alleged turtle eggs were served.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Wong said he was told that the incident took place during the recent Hari Raya celebration but did not reveal how he obtained the photograph.
Responding to the post, a man who claimed he was in the photograph with Bung took to his own Facebook account 'Rapidcdorezo' and clarified there were no turtle eggs consumed.
He also said that his photo was edited and circulated without consent.
Harvesting turtle eggs is allowed under strict and limited licensing on the east coast of the peninsula but it is illegal in Sabah under the Sabah Wildlife Enactment 1997.
Those guilty of harvesting, selling or consuming turtle eggs in the state can be fined up to RM50,000 or jailed for five years or both. - Mkini
