Bring Millions In Safehouses Culprit To Justice Says Amanah

As MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki keeps his cards close to his chest on the identity of the politician implicated in a sand mining concession investigation, Selangor Amanah urged the commission to ensure the culprit faces justice.
“We hope these efforts will not stop and the culprit is brought to justice even if the person is someone prominent,” said its communications director Abbas Azmi.
He said as a state that practices good and ethical governance under Pakatan Harapan and the coalition government, these wrongdoings cannot be tolerated.
“Therefore, Selangor Amanah urges MACC to continue its investigation and ensure that the state of Selangor continues to practice good governance,” he added in a statement this evening.
Earlier, Malaysiakini reported Azam saying that two more safehouses linked to a senior politician were raided in the Klang Valley last night bringing the total to three.
The chief commissioner also said he expected investigators to raid more safehouses in connection with the case.
Money seized during a raid on a safehouseYesterday, Malaysiakini reported that “millions” in cash were seized from an apartment in Kuala Lumpur.
Azam said the commission also discovered that the politician, who is believed to be from the opposition, had made investments in Singapore.
Quizzed if the politician is from the government or the opposition, he quipped: “That is a million dollar question… I will tell you when the time is right.”
He also said the politician would be called in for questioning when it is appropriate to do so.
So far, four people have been detained in relation to the case and MACC has recorded statements from 15 individuals.
The case is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and Anti-Money Laundering Act (Amla) 2021. - Mkini
