(From left) Najib Razak, Hishammuddin Hussein and Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah say no decision was made during meeting with all BN MPs today.KUALA LUMPUR: Every Barisan Nasional (BN) MP gave their view on the stand the coalition needed to take in light of recent political developments in the country, former prime minister Najib Razak said today.
The Pekan MP said their views would be taken into account by the Umno Supreme Council, which would then make the “final decision” at its meeting tonight.
“We did not make any decisions. We only received the opinions of BN MPs on the direction that should be set for the party.
“However, the final decision will be made by the (Umno) Supreme Council tonight,” he told reporters when met at the Putra World Trade Centre here after the meeting which was attended by all BN MPs this afternoon.
Najib added that any decision made should not split Umno, saying the party must act as one political bloc.
When asked if the topic of Muhyiddin Yassin’s position as prime minister was brought up, he said many views were given on the matter.
“Many views were given, but these can’t be counted (as official). What’s important is the decision later,” he said referring to the Umno Supreme Council meeting.
Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein echoed Najib’s comments, saying no decision was made at the meeting involving BN MPs.
Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said the issue of Muhyiddin’s leadership was raised at the meeting but maintained that the final decision will be made en bloc.
Meanwhile, Padang Besar MP Zahidi Zainul Abidin said the meeting did not specifically discuss the issue of Muhyiddin resigning as prime minister.
However, he said BN MPs had maintained their stand against working with opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and DAP.
“We will stick to that decision until the Supreme Council makes a decision (tonight),” he said.
When asked about the possibility of a snap general election, Zahidi said the strongest view during the meeting was that having the polls would be the best way forward.
“However, we now have the Covid-19 problem,” he added. - FMT
