Bersatu Man Accuses Saifuddin Of Meddling In Rm600b Probe
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has been criticised for allegedly interfering in the police probe of the alleged misappropriation of RM600 billion in public funds by the previous administration.
In a statement today, Shah Alam Bersatu deputy chief Dr Afif Bahardin said Saifuddin's plans to hold "further discussions" with the police were "shocking" and "unprecedented".
"We condemn in the strongest terms such clear political interference by the minister in directing the police on how to conduct its work.
"This is political revenge in its ugliest form and should not happen in any country that claims to be a fully functioning democratic state," said Afif (above), who is also a two-term Seberang Jaya assemblyperson.
Yesterday, Saifuddin said he would hear from the police soon over the matter, which received wide attention after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim claimed that there were improprieties involved.
Afif, who was once Saifuddin's colleague in PKR, said the home minister had no business discussing specifics of any investigations with the police.
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail"That is the jurisdiction of the police, and there must be no political or ministerial interference.
"It is disgraceful for the home minister, on his second day in office, to be planning on getting involved in the conduct of an investigation," said Afif.
Afif accused Anwar of "behaving like Goebbels" by repeating the RM600 billion allegation ad nauseam and then instigates the authorities to investigate their own allegation.
"While this may be usual in countries such as North Korea, it is repugnant in Malaysia which is supposed to be a democratic nation," he said. - Mkini
