Axed Zaliha Reflects On Achievements Congratulates Yeoh

Outgoing minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa has congratulated her successor, fellow Pakatan Harapan MP Hannah Yeoh, while reflecting on her past success in the ministry.
Zaliha also expressed her belief that every decision by the prime minister is taken with careful consideration, as well as grounded in national interest and the need to ensure that the government remains stable, functional, and focused on reform.
“I would like to congratulate (Yeoh) on her appointment as the new (federal territories minister). I wish her every success in continuing the federal territories’ development agenda for the well-being of the people,” the Sekijang MP said in a statement today.
“As a government member, I will continue to give my full support to the Madani agenda as well as the reform policies that are being and will be implemented for the sake of the nation and the people.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim unveiled a new cabinet line-up, with Yeoh set to replace PKR’s Zaliha. The latter was the federal territories minister since December 2023, having helmed the Health Ministry prior to that.
Yeoh, DAP’s Segambut MP, was previously the youth and sports minister, with the ministry now to be led by first-term PKR lawmaker Taufiq Johari alongside newly appointed deputy DAP’s Mordi Bimol.
Hannah YeohThe previous deputy youth and sports minister, Adam Adli, will be moving to the Higher Education Ministry as its deputy minister.
Achievements in the last 2 years
Commenting on her tenure as the federal territories minister, Zaliha extended her appreciation to all officers and staff of the Federal Territories Department and its agencies for their commitment and cooperation.
“Over a period of nearly two years, various longstanding legacy issues have been addressed in stages, including firm efforts to eradicate bazaar cartels that have long oppressed small traders and micro-entrepreneurs,” she reflected.
She added that through the implementation of the “Program Usaha Jaya Insan” for the federal territories, the government managed to eradicate hardcore poverty.
The achievement, she said, proved that a targeted, integrated, and data-driven approach can bring real change to the lives of the people.
“In the Federal Territory of Labuan, efforts to strengthen the local economy have continued through tourism and connectivity initiatives, including the resumption of the Labuan-Kota Kinabalu express ferry service as well as the implementation of the Labuan-Menumbok Bridge feasibility study, which is now at the implementation phase,” she said. - Mkini
