Dr Yadzil Yaakub says Melaka chief minister Ab Rauf Yusof’s state government was “insincere” for denying opposition assemblymen funds which could benefit the people.PETALING JAYA: State opposition leader Dr Yadzil Yaakub has questioned the Melaka government’s motives for denying allocations to the only two opposition members in its legislative assembly.
Yadzil, the Bemban assemblyman, asked whether the state government had something to fear.
“Even the Rembia assemblyman from the government bloc (Umno’s Jailani Khamis) had his allocation withdrawn for not being aligned with the state government’s leadership,” he told FMT.
Yadzil said the denial of funds was indicative of the state government’s selective and insincere approach towards assisting the people.

“The time will come. Let the people judge the arrogance of the current state government that belittles the people’s mandate,” he said.
On Sunday, Melaka chief minister Ab Rauf Yusof said the state government had no plans to allocate funds for opposition assemblymen and would not consider any requests.
Rauf said funds were instead being channelled to the state government’s appointed coordinator for the state seats of Sungai Udang, Bemban and Rembia.
The opposition In Melaka’s 28-seat assembly is represented only by Yadzil and Sungai Udang assemblyman Dr Aleef Yusof, both of Bersatu.
Jailani, a former executive councillor, had said in March last year that he did not support Rauf as chief minister after the latter took over the post from his predecessor, Sulaiman Ali.
Jailani also hit out at the Melaka government, saying he was being treated like a “second-class” assemblyman despite still being part of the government bloc in the state assembly.
He insisted that he was still the elected representative for the people of Rembia and should be given funds to serve them as best he can despite his six-year suspension from Umno. - FMT
