All Eyes On Another Tribute Dinner For Kit Siang After Penang Incident

A few days after an altercation at a Penang DAP dinner on Saturday, attention now turns to another tribute dinner for party veteran Lim Kit Siang, set to take place in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
ADSThe dinner, hosted by party secretary-general Anthony Loke, will celebrate Kit Siang’s 84th birthday.
Malaysiakini understands that invitations have been sent to DAP party leaders as well as its women and youth wings.
The event will be held at a Chinese restaurant in Sunway Velocity Mall.
At a press conference last Saturday, Loke cited the upcoming dinner as proof that DAP remains united, saying “there is no Romance of the Three Kingdoms” within the party.
However, on the same day, an altercation occurred at a Penang DAP dinner, where party state chief Steven Sim was heckled and insulted by Tan Khong Chong, a special assistant to national chairperson Lim Guan Eng.
A portion of the incident was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media.
Tan apologised for his outburst in a statement today.
Guan Eng, who is the Bagan MP, is said to be facing a significant challenge in the party’s central executive committee (CEC) election on March 16.
‘Strong support for Guan Eng’
In a statement today, Klang DAP expressed pride in hosting a “meaningful dinner” yesterday to “celebrate the strong support” for a united leadership comprising Guan Eng, Loke, parliamentary leader Nga Kor Ming, and deputy chairperson Gobind Singh Deo.
The statement noted that the dinner was hosted by its chief, V Ganabatirau, who is also a Selangor state executive councillor, at a restaurant in Klang.
Among the leaders in attendance were Guan Eng, Gobind, Ganabatirau, Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, Selangor state executive councillor Ng Suee Lim, and state assemblypersons Leong Tuck Chee (Pandamaran), S Preakas (Kota Kemuning), Quah Perng Fei (Bandar Baru Klang), and Michelle Ng (Subang Jaya).
ADS“This event was attended by more than 120 branches from Klang, Kota Raja, and Shah Alam, as well as surrounding areas, with a total attendance of over 300 delegates.
“This demonstrates strong support for the party and the continued unity among members and leadership,” read the statement.
The statement further claimed those who attended the dinner expressed “strong support” for Guan Eng.
