After Losing Father Family Saved From Losing Home

A family that was about to lose their home several months after losing their father can now breathe a sigh of relief.
Their bank, which previously decided to auction off their property, changed its mind today.
Pravinraj Chandrasekaran and his family were on the verge of losing their house in Kampung Tersusun Kemuning, Sungai Siput, Perak following the death of his father Chandrasekaran Murgan Kandan from a heart attack in August 2020.
The death resulted in overdue housing loan payments.
The family claimed that the bank insisted on auctioning off their home next Thursday (April 15) despite their offer to make monthly repayments until the property is changed from being under Chandrasekaran’s name.
The bank finally relented after the family travelled to its Kuala Lumpur headquarters this morning to plead for the auction to be stopped.
Pravinraj, 25, spoke to the media after meeting bank officials.
“We (previously) requested the bank to give us some time but they said they couldn't do anything and that they would continue with the auction.
“We couldn't do much in Sungai Siput. That's why we came to the headquarters in Kuala Lumpur and here, they agreed to our requests.
“Starting next month, we will be able to start paying RM500 (per month). After paying some money (RM2,000) today. They agreed to let us pay monthly and they said they will stop the auction,” he said.
Malaysiakini is withholding the name of the bank pending a response to this story.
Pravinraj said they were relieved with the decision and will continue to request the Kuala Kangsar District and Land Office for an authorisation letter to enable him to execute his father's estate.
He was accompanied today by his younger sister, grandmother, grandaunt, and representatives from Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM).
His mother, now a widow, is presently working in Singapore.
PSM chairperson and former Sungai Siput MP Dr Michael Jeyakumar opined that the bank should have been more considerate to the family.
“For now, they have stopped the auction. That is what's important,” he told the media. - Mkini
