People who are over 65 years old are to be vaccinated in the second phase of the national immunisation programme.PETALING: Selangor’s Covid-19 task force has found that 90% of senior citizens in the state have not yet registered to be vaccinated under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
Task force chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad said the low sign-up rate was based on observations and data collected by the team. He described the trend as “troubling”.
The task force attributed the low uptake to a lack of knowledge about digital registration channels, internet constraints and the lack of access to applications such as MySejahtera, according to a report by Harian Metro.
FMT is seeking a response from Khairy Jamaluddin, the minister responsible for the immunisation programme.
Dzulkefly said the task force would help the elderly to ensure that no individual is left behind in the vaccination process.
Dzulkefly, a former health minister, said that his party, Amanah, was working with the chairman of the village management councils to assist in registering people for the vaccine.
He said village chairmen were shown how to guide individuals who had not registered to use MySejahtera or sign up through the health ministry’s vaccination portal.
Dzulkefly said the Selangor government would share its data with the health ministry for the registration process and to identify individuals for registration.
