PETALING JAYA: Johor police have arrested seven men linked to a viral video showing a man being assaulted near Senai International Airport.
Kulai police chief Tan Seng Lee said the suspects, aged between 25 and 40, were arrested in Skudai and Johor Bahru between 8pm yesterday and 12.30am this morning.
He said the incident occurred in front of a petrol station near the airport at 1.30pm yesterday.
We made the arrests after identifying a video uploaded by the Facebook account ‘This Is Johor’, showing a group of men behaving aggressively and assaulting another man by the roadside, he said in a statement today.
We also received a police report from the victim, a 39-year-old local man, following the incident. The victim sustained minor injuries, including scratches and swelling.
Tan said the police also seized two cars, four handphones, and two rattan sticks believed to have been used in the incident.
He said four of the suspects had criminal records for various offences, including drug-related crimes. They have been remanded until Oct 11.
Tan also said initial investigation found that the incident was triggered by a misunderstanding between the victim and another suspect who is still at large.
The suspects are being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 427 for mischief.
