(Bernama pic)PUTRAJAYA: Two judges and 11 judicial commissioners today took their oaths of office before their administrative heads to begin duties in their respective courts on Monday.
Federal Court judge Zabidin Mohd Diah took his oath of office before Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat while Court of Appeal judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali took his oath before Court of Appeal president Rohana Yusuf.
Zabidin, 64, and Nazlan, 54, received their instruments of appointment from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, at Istana Negara yesterday.
With Zabidin’s appointment, the apex court is now a “full house” with 15 judges including the chief justice, Court of Appeal president and the two Chief Judges of Malaya, and Sabah and Sarawak.
Zabidin was appointed High Court judge on July 28, 2006, before being elevated to the Court of Appeal on Nov 26, 2018.
Nazlan was appointed High Court judge on Jan 30, 2017. He was the judge who convicted former prime minister Najib Razak of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust (CBT) and money laundering involving SRC International Sdn Bhd in July 2020.
Former senior federal counsel Azizan Md Arshad and 10 others received their instruments of appointment as judicial commissioners (JC) from Tengku Maimun.
Others are former senior federal counsel S Narkunavathy, Noor Ruwena Md Nordin (Advisory Board in the Prime Minister’s Department) and Jamhirah Ali (Certificate of Legal Practice examination director).
Also appointed were former sessions court judge Rozi Bainon, ex-industrial court chairman Noor Hayati Mat and Roz Mawar Rozain (former deputy director of prosecution and civil enforcement) from the Securities Commission (SC).
Four lawyers from private practice were also appointed, namely Azlan Sulaiman, Kenneth St James, Leong Wai Hong and Noor Hisham Ismail.
All JCs took their oaths of office before Chief Judge of Malaya Azahar Mohamed as they will be stationed in the High Courts in the peninsula.
They will be on a two-year probation pending confirmation as High Court judges.
Also present today were law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Attorney-General Idrus Harun. - FMT
