Rm45 9mil Revenue From Special Number Plate Bidding Last Year

PETALING JAYA: The government collected RM45.9 million last year from the sale of special vehicle registration number plates, part of which was used to fund various programmes for those in need, said transport minister Loke Siew Fook.
In a written parliamentary reply, Loke said the bidding for the special number plates included the “GOLD”, “FFF”, “EV”, “PETRA”, and “MADANI” series.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim won the bid for the “GOLD 1” number plate at RM1.5 million. The “GOLD” series was unveiled in conjunction with the celebration of Malaysia’s 50th Federal Territory Day.
Loke was responding to Khairil Nizam Khirudin (PN-Jerantut), who asked about the total revenue generated from special number plate sales last year and for a breakdown of related expenditure.
According to Loke, all revenue from the bids was directed to the consolidated fund under the finance ministry.
“Subsequently, 50% was allocated to the transport ministry to support initiatives benefiting the underprivileged, as announced by the prime minister during the tabling of the 2024 budget.
“These initiatives include the MyLesen programme, where the government covers the cost of driving tests for B2-class motorcycle licences, goods driving licences, e-hailing, and taxi permits,” he said.
Other initiatives include providing helmets for adults and children, as well as subsidising domestic flight tickets for government higher education students travelling between Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan, he said.
He added that with the revenue from the “GOLD” series, the transport ministry had also funded 10% of social security contributions for taxi, rental car, and school bus drivers under the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme. - FMT
