Housewife Living In Fear Of Loan Sharks

Caught on camera: A man seen in a CCTV footage throwing a molotov cocktail into Ni Lee’s house in Ipoh.
IPOH: It has been a tough month for a 50-year-old housewife and her three children after their house was targeted with chicken blood, red paint and even molotov cocktails.
Ni Lee Ukap said the family was hounded by loan sharks who claimed that one of her sons had not paid a RM6,000 loan in 2018, although she said he had repaid a total of RM33,000, including interest.
“The first attack was on Sept 6. I was sleeping when I heard a strange sound. I asked my son to check and there was red paint and blood scattered around our gate.
“There was a note saying my other son had borrowed about RM6,000 from the loan shark in 2018 and had not settled the payment.
“I contacted my son and he told me that the loan has been paid more than double the amount, which came up to about RM15,000, ” she said in a press conference organised by Perak MCA public services and complaints bureau chief Low Guo Nan at her house in Taman Seri Berjaya yesterday.
Ni Lee said her son, who has been working in Singapore since seven years ago, later paid another RM18,000 to the loan shark.
“He was worried about us. So he decided to pay again. We thought by paying them, they will not disturb us anymore. But we were wrong.
“The last payment was made on Sept 16. However, we received a text message from loan sharks demanding another RM4,000.
“In the text message, the loan shark said the money was for runners’ fee – the ones that threw red paint, blood and petrol at our house, ” she said.
Ni Lee said she was worried that the loan shark might harm her and her children.
“I still have two schoolgoing children. My husband is working in Seremban and I am the only adult in the family.
“Since the incident, we had to be extra careful and had to stay home all the time. We even installed a CCTV, ” she said.
Low hoped this would be a lesson to those wanting to deal with ah long.
“In this case, they still harmed the family although they have paid the loan, ” he said.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the police was investigating the case. - Star
